B Corp support for service agencies
You’ve probably seen the B Corp logo on various items around your home. Many brands have been B Corp certified for a number of years, but more and more service-based companies are realising how B Corp can make them a better company and use the business as a force for good.
What is B Corp?
To quote the B Corp website:
“We need an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet. Let's use business as a force for good.”
Certified B Corps show high values when it comes to corporate governance, their workers, the community, the environment and their clients. Companies can use the B Corp tool called the B Impact Assessment to see how their business scores on a wide range of social and environmental questions. Those with a score of 80 or above are in a position to apply to become B Corp certified – a rigorous, time-intensive but very rewarding process.
Why go for certification?
Let’s be clear: B Corp certification is not something that should be viewed in terms of financial impact on a business. It may well lead to more work and open a few doors, but it’s important for companies to view B Corp for what it is – making business socially and environmentally more responsible.
One of the main reasons to look at B Corp is because of the thoroughness the initial B impact assessment will often highlights a lot of areas or initiatives that it’s best practice to have in place regardless of whether you go for your B Corp certification or not – such as having a breastfeeding at work policy or ensuring your job descriptions have a D&I statement. It’s also a free tool and you don’t have to then go on to try and certify.
Some key benefits to your business becoming B Corp certified are:
-
Attract the best team – increasingly, people are looking at the environment and social stance / impact of a business before applying
-
Retain your team – as mentioned above, B Corp will make your business better and the existing team will be more likely to stay as a result
-
Better business Governance – the impact assessment questions help to ensure this
-
Being part of a community wider than your industry
How I can support you
I’ve been through the impact assessment and certification process for companies that are small (1-49) and small medium (50-249) and understand the complexities of the assessment and how to improve the business in a responsible manner in order to be ready to certify.
